DIT Transcription
I worked for DIT for two years. They are a company based in North Carolina. It used to be a good company to work for until they started having financial problems in April of last year. All of a sudden they couldn’t pay anymore. Paychecks started coming late or not at all. It seems like the only thing that WAS consistent was their excuses and promises to pay.
I worked really hard for them but once my paychecks started bouncing I started getting really frustrated. I started hearing rumors that the owners split up, which is why they couldn’t pay anymore. I was also told that the reason they weren’t paying is because the clinics and doctors were slow paying them, so they were in turn slow in paying their transcribers. I finally got a paycheck in August for work that I did in May which is absolutely ridiculous.
When I finally confronted them and told them if I did not get paid I was going to talk to my attorney, they fired me. I still have not received all the money they owe me and probably never will. Please research any transcription company before working for them.

While I don’t believe it’s ever acceptable for a company to not pay their contractors, I think we have to be realistic in the current economy. Many businesses are suffering during these hard times.
I can understand a “lag time” in paying transcribers but 3 months I think is kind of extreme. Many companies will pay after a week or two lag time, meaning they have a week or two to collect from their clients and then turn around and pay the contractor.
I completely agree with your comment about researching companies prior to working for them. At the very least, put a limit on how much you will allow them to owe you before you stop working for them. After all, you can’t be expected for work for free - at least not for very long.
I will send an inquiry to DIT and give them a chance to respond regarding this issue. I will update when I hear back from them.
