Transcriber Toolbox: Step 1 - Starting your own transcribing business

Step 1:

This site contains everything you need to get your transcribing business started.  The trick is pulling it all together into some sort of logical order that will help you use it to your advantage.  It’s not easy training for a career so don’t plan to just skim through everything and think you’ve got it and you’re ready to go to work.  It doesn’t work that way.  Anything that’s worth doing is worth doing well and if you apply yourself to learning how to become a transcriber, you can become one of the best out there.

The following posts will serve as a step by step guide.

Throughout this topic area, I will include forms and links to tools that will help you along in your journey.

The first thing you’ll want to do is read through the following articles in order.  They were part of my “How To Become a Work At Home Transcriptionist” ebook that I once offered for sale online.  These articles will provide useful tips for working from home, developing your skills as a transcriptionist, setting your prices and finding clients.

The Transcription Opportunity

Pro’s and Con’s of Working From Home

Separating Work From Work at Home

Sharpening your Skills

The Transcriber’s Tools

This next bit of reading is going to take you a while.  It’s an ebook I wrote a couple years ago called The Home Business Template.  It’s 192 pages of rough and tumble, hardcore how to start your home business.  It covers everything from the initial ‘do you have what it takes survey’ to opening your doors for business.  This is not for the fainthearted if you plan to just slap up a website and call yourself a transcriber.
