Nice to meet you all.  I’m Carol.  I’ve been a freelance transcriber for close 30 years now, starting on an IBM Selectric typewriter, recording dictation on my telephone answering machine, and using a regular old tape player with a $5 foot pedal from Radio Shack to transcribe it.  Things sure have changed.  I’ve done mostly MT, working directly with my own clients, up until a couple of years ago when I branched into GT and even a little light LT.  I like the variety of the work, and I’m always open to new things.

Hi Carol and welcome!  I grew up in San Diego as a Navy brat.  What part of California are you in? I’ve only been transcribing for about 6 years, not counting the dictation I did for the attorney’s I worked for many years ago.  Sometimes it seems like 30 years though, especially on those late nights with looming deadlines.  I haven’t seen an IBM Selectric since college.  That’s before computer monitors had color, and you’re right, a lot has changed since then.

I haven’t done much MT work, maybe an occasional seminar.  The terminology is a real killer for me having to Google everything for correct spelling.  I mostly do GT work as an IC.  Anyway, welcome!

My sister is in Mountain View.  I believe that’s near SF too.
