Some people say you only need two skills to become a good transcriber, but there are actually three. One, you need to have a decent typing speed. While a specific speed is not required by many contracting companies, the faster you can type, the more money you will be able to make but that's just the start.
Aside from typing skills, you also need to have excellent grammar skills. Most companies will require that you have English as your native language, but this is because they want people who have mastered the language. Proper grammar, punctuation and language usage is important if you want to be able to properly transcribe what a speaker is saying.
The third skill you need is also good listening skills. It's important to be able to listen closely to what a speaker is saying so you're sure not to miss anything important being said.
If you possess those skills, you already have a great start to becoming a transcriptionist! Coaching can help learn the details of the business and our coaches can help you get there faster. We provide one-on-one, personal attention to ensure that you reach your goals of becoming a successful transcriptionist.
